About this Workshop: In the social media age, birth has become an outward-facing experience that focuses primarily on what birth looks like, rather than what it feels like from the inside out. Though birth plans have become mainstream, they so often include half-baked ideas that can result in disappointment, failed expectations, and contributions to the tragic mortality rate for BIPOC.
My book discusses the many layers (from brain science to family lineage) that are important to us birth workers, yet get overlooked by many birthing families as mainstream medicine does not understand the importance of how “being seen and heard” can support better outcomes. My “get to the point” workbook has all the questions you want to ask your families, but may not even know that you can, so they can find their voice with their care professional – or even switch to a new provider – and show up with accountability in their choices to co-create their unique birth plan.
The transformative nature of birth calls us to do more than just make a haphazard list we call: A Birth Plan. Birth begs us to get to know ourselves a little more deeply than before and inspires us to get even more familiar with our bodies. And as doulas, it is our job to make sure the right questions get asked to help growing families on the new journey.
About Elizabeth: For 18 year, Elizabeth has been expertly combining her Medical Board License as a Midwife and experience as a Doula with her diverse body of skills in Pre and Perinatal Psychology and Somatic Coaching to passionately educate and inspire people to understand the inter-weavings of the biological female body with the brain and social nervous system to both prepare and integrate their birth experiences. With a degree in Child Psychology from Tufts University, Elizabeth is uniquely in tune with the full spectrum of family needs around birth planning so the individual can be both seen and heard.
She has been featured as a leading expert on TV shows including The Doctors, VH1’s Love and Hip Hop Hollywood and Little Women LA and is a contributor at MindBodyGreen.com. She is also celebrated for her dedication to normalizing all childbirth choices and humanizing birth by People, ET, In-Side Edition, MTV, XXL, HOLA and CBS News
You can listen to her podcast: Big Birth Junkie and hear the stories of how families navigate the journey from conception through childbirth and the postpartum period.
