Motivation Monday: Spotlight Doula Margie Levy
June 7 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Join our conversation with Margie Levy, long time doula and DASC member. We will be discussing long labors and how to support clients (and ourselves!).
Margie attended her first birth in 1996 and the birth bug bit hard! She became certified in 2002 and has been working as a professional doula ever since. Margie’s credentials include labor doula certifications from both DONA International (2002-present) and CAPPA (2004-2016) and ALPP (2014-present). She is also a member of DASC (Doulas Association of Southern California) and served on the organization’s board of directors from 2003 to 2010 including the role of President from 2006 to 2009. In addition to training with DONA, CAPPA, and ALPP, she has also trained in Hypnosis by Ellie Shea, one of the earliest board members of DONA, Reiki, Pregnancy Massage, Lactation Education, Spinning Babies and many other childbirth support techniques.
Margie is a big believer that social justice matters and has taken intensive trainings on the subject. She now volunteers for The Remember Institute’s Heal Thyself course for people racialized as white. Margie has sat on many panels in community events regarding topics related to doula support. This includes panels at Cedars Sinai Medical Center(annual birth census of 7000), which worked to create positive relationships with the staff and doulas. She won awards from the Doulas Association of Southern California in 2005 and 2011 for Doula of the year.
